About Privacy

I have no intention of abusing your privacy with this website, ScottMichaelPowers.com, this blog, “You’re Welcome,” the newsletter generated from it, or through anything else. I value your privacy just as I value my own.

What I Collect

I’m going to collect and store some information for a database of my readers, but only information you willingly provide going in. That database will reside at A2Hosting. For newsletter subscriptions, I collect your name, the IP address of your computer, and your email address. For comments, I also collect those data, so that I can have confidence you are real and you stand by what you’re saying. That all goes into my database.

Cookies

I offer cookies to ensure the integrity of my registration process and to personalize your experience on my website. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by a webpage server. Cookies can’t be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer.

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies.

Comment Moderation

I moderate comments. My overarching rule is: Be nice. I love reasoned dissent, respectful debate, and even goofy ideas. Yet I’ll reject comments I think could be libelous, invasions of someone’s privacy, plagiarist, racist, antisemitic, homophobic, threatening, bat-shit crazy, very poorly written, or just needlessly mean. I don’t want such garbage on my website. In addition to my own judgment, I use two services that vet and screen comments and commenters: CleanTalk and Wordfence.

When I see comments I find particularly interesting or well-put, I may include excepts plus the commenters’ names on the ticker that runs near the bottom of my homepage, to give those thoughts higher-profile. Please consider such placement a “like.”

Third Party Sharing

I won’t sell, rent, or lease your data. I won’t provide my data to third parties, except as unfortunately necessary to keep the website functioning or to comply with the law. I use A2Hosting to maintain the database. I use CleanTalk and Wordfence for spam monitoring and community vetting. I use Google Analytics to inform me on how this website is doing. Yes, those companies will get my data so they can perform those tasks. I trust them. I hope you will too, but that’ll have to be your call going in.

Opting Out

At any time, if you wish to unsubscribe to my newsletter or to have your comments removed, just let me know through the Contact portal. I’ll take care of it as soon as I can.

Comments? Suggestions?

I welcome any comments or suggestions regarding this privacy policy. Let me know through the Contact portal.
